At age 33, Eva Grayzel was bounced among healthcare professionals for over two years while the ulcer on her lateral tongue became more prominent and painful. A professional interactive performance artist by vocation, Eva shares riveting details about her late stage diagnosis and how she found the strength to persevere through the devastating effects of surgery and radiation. From her self-discovery and profound insight, Eva evokes a passion for life and for early detection of oral cancer in a charismatic and compelling way. A never-smoker/non-drinker, she endured a partial tongue reconstruction, a modified radical neck dissection, and a maximum dose of radiation therapy. Provoking a powerful impact on dental professionals, Eva enhances their approach toward patient care.
Eva's experience as a performance artist provides her the skills to communicate her experience as a patient and survivor in a unique and powerful way. As embodied in the quote by Dr. Michael Seigel, Professor and Chairman of Diagnostic Sciences, Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine: "Eva is captivating and will touch your lives and souls in a way that no faculty member possibly can. She will tell you first hand, from the patient perspective what it is like to hear the words from a dentist, 'You are in an advanced Stage of Oral Cancer.'
